This beautiful example of South Indian wood carving is this magnificently sculpted Wooden Pradosha Rishabha Vahanam Nandi. This statue is specially designed by the karuppaiah sculptures. These enormous wood statues often depict gods’ mounts (Vahanas) or doorkeepers’ (Dwarapalas) figures to decorate the yearly parade of gods on chariots with a height of 3 feet sculpted bravely. These lovely, vibrantly colored Vasthram over the back and a bell worked chain sculpted in the neck and around the hip portion too.
This particular statue represents Nandi, the Hindu deity Shiva’s mount made of a bull and we have sculpted it with special Padma Peedam. Take note of the pedestal on the wooden Nandi intended to hold the Shiva procession statue. Rishabh is the Sanskrit name for the bull. As a result, this statue is also known as Pradosha Rishabh Vahana or The Bull Mount. This statue would make the ideal pedestal for the Shiva god or it may be displayed indoors or outdoors as a lucky piece of decor.
Here, Pradosha is a bimonthly occasion on the thirteenth day of every fortnight in the Hindu calendar. It is closely connected with the worship of the Hindu god Shiva.
