Maha Periyava Paaduka is first made of copper fully designed. The wooden paaduka actually used by Maha periayava is used to take imprint to make this gold lacquered paaduka. The gold lacquered paaduka is made to preserve the wooden paaduka. The wooden paaduka is placed in this gold lacquered paaduka and preserved.
The making of gold lacquer for the paaduka :

Gold sheet made thinner than paper and that gold foil is placed on the copper kavacham.
Gold foil placed on copper kavacham and sprinkled with mercury becomes white in colour.
Heating process at a low temperature gives a golden colour after mercury gets evaporated.
